Who is John Muir?

John Muir was born on April 21, 1838, in Dunbar, Scotland. His childhood, youth and early years were spent in the rugged landscapes of Scotland. Which is where he grew up under his father’s strict religious beliefs and the harsh rural environment of where he was situated. This is what caused him to have a strong sense of discipline and wonder. At the age of 11 Muir and his family emigrated to the United States in 1849. Where they settled in Wisconsin. The natural beauty of the American wilderness of his new home is what sparked Muir’s lifelong passion for nature. John was responsible for founding the Sierra Club and the establishment of the national park system in the United States. The United States’ National Park System was established in order to create and oversee a network of protected natural areas that is overseen by the National Park Service (NPS). This network includes national parks, monuments, historic sites, and other units. This system aims to protect these locations’ historical significance, natural beauty, and cultural heritage so that future generations can enjoy them. A group of places in the US with federal designation that are guarded and maintained to conserve their natural and cultural resources is known as the National Park System. These areas are home to historic sites, national parks, and other designations. The concept of national parks originated with the establishment of Yellowstone National Park in 1872, which is recognized as the world’s first national park. The National Park Service was founded in 1916 with the assistance of the Organic Act with the aim of overseeing and preserving the country’s growing collection of national parks and monuments. The National Park System was created with the intention of safeguarding America’s rich natural and cultural heritage, offering a range of experiences and making sure that these invaluable resources are maintained for upcoming generations.
